To catch you up to speed the past several years, Pierce graduated from “Susan Gray School” in Nashville, TN in the spring of 2007. We did the cap and gown and the whole graduation ceremony – a ritual not available when I was five. I personally believe the whole “pre-school” graduation idea was financially motivated by the “cap & gown” industry, but who am I to ruin the party? Actually, it was quite fun watching Pierce wheel up to his principal in his graduation attire to receive his diploma – a diploma that earned him a full ride to Kindergarten. Ironically, there wore a cap and gown for graduation there as well, so Pierce has now graduated twice in two years. We’re so proud.

In October of 2007, Pierce had another surgery on his back to remove scar tissue that was attached to his spinal cord – and to release fluid that had built up there. It was his first major medical “issue” in over two years. The surgery was successful, and after three days at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, we were sent home. Two weeks later, we moved to Burlington, NC – with the surgeon’s blessing of course.

For those who ain’t from around these parts, Burlington is between Greensboro and Raleigh. We hadn’t heard of it either, but Elizabeth was offered the opportunity to open and manage her very own “Harry & David” store at a new “lifestyle” shopping complex called Alamance Crossing. We talked and prayed, and felt really good about it – so we made the move. We were in Burlington till October 2009 when we moved (yet again) to Wake Forest, NC.

Currently, Pierce is in the 2nd grade and is being homeschooled. His favorite subjects are writing and art and he loves his new teacher (mommy). He also loves his new friends at Southeastern and his new church, Richland Creek.
